Artist Ricardo Cortez

Ricardo Cortez is a San Jose-based artist, storyteller, and cultural steward whose work centers on community memory, public space, and overlooked histories. A lifelong San Jose resident with deep multigenerational roots in the city, Rick’s creative practice blends public art, education, and advocacy—often highlighting local subcultures like lowriding through accessible and engaging formats, including the acclaimed children’s book ABCs of Lowriding (lowriderabc.com).
With nearly two decades in public service and a background in fine art and marketing, he has led transformative events and workshops across libraries, civic spaces, and transit hubs, notably activating areas impacted by development and displacement. Through projects like 408Innovates he invites communities to reclaim their stories with pride, honoring the past while shaping inclusive futures.
